"Produced from old-vine fruit from Monts Luisants giving tiny yields. Produced with about one-third whole clusters and one-third new casks for ageing, the wine opens with a complex nose showing black cherry fruit and a savoury, almost gamey edge. The initial impression on the palate is silky and accessible, but the tannin here is immense, although very fine-grained. There is impressive freshness and a finish that goes on and on. Lovely. A superb Clos de la Roche. (Drink between 2029-2049)"
Vinous, 96-98 Points
"The 2019 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru comes from the two terroirs, the majority from Mont Luisants and one-third from Fremières. The vines were planted in the Sixties and the late Fifties respectively. It has a beautifully defined bouquet with black cherries, raspberry, briary and rose petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, concentrated as you would expect since it was cropped at around 25hl/ha with wonderful minerality on the finish. Outstanding."
Wine Advocate, 95-97 Points
"The 2019 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is very promising, wafting from the glass with notes of blackcurrants, cherries and wild berries mingled with notions of loamy soil, orange rind, warm spices and new oak. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's lively and concentrated, with ultra-refined tannins and terrific depth at the core, concluding with a long, saline finish."
Burghound, 92-95 Points
"A mildly toasty and ripe nose features notes of plum liqueur, red cherry, plum and a plentitude of spice elements. The succulent and more concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess both good richness and a sophisticated mouthfeel before culminating in a sneaky long, compact and built-to-age finish that carries its elevated alcohol surprisingly well. (Drink starting 2034)"
