The history of Chateau Pegau starts with Domaine Pegau.  Domaine Pegau is owned by a father and daughter team, Paul and Laurence Feraud.  The family has been growing vines in France since 1670.  Pegau is one of the greatest estates in the Chateauneuf du Pape and considered a benchmark producer of the region.  Pegau is justifiably ranked among the greatest wines in the world.  In 2012, the Chateauneuf du Pape icons bought a property just a few miles from they make their benchmark wines and named it Chateau Pegau.  The property sits in the prime spot in the Cotes du Rhone.  The wines are emphatically not Chateauneuf du Pape, nor are they priced that way.  However, the yields have been kept to the absurdly low limits permitted in Chateauneuf and the wines have all the density of that great appellation.  Chateau Pegau wines are loaded with classic Cotes du Rhone fruit and spice.  They truly deliver, showcasing the estate's excellent terroir with the unmistakable imprint of Pegau.  The 2019 Chateau Pegau Cuvee Maclura Cotes du Rhone is concentrated and well structured, but still so accessible.  It has notes of dark fruits, olive, fig and peppery garrigue.  It has a long, supple finish with well-crafted, fine tannins.  This Cotes du Rhone is rich, mouth-filling and a standout, classic.  Enjoy!

James Suckling, 93 Points

"The full range of exciting Southern Rhone aromas, from graphite to raw meat to black cherry, pour from the glass of this youthful wine. Concentrated and well structured, but already so accessible, thanks to the well-crafted, fine tannins, this is a standout wine in the humble category. Long, supple finish with savory and spicy notes."

Jeb Dunnuck, 90 Points

"As to the reds, the 2019 Côtes Du Rhône Maclura offers plenty of dark fruits, black olive, and peppery garrigue in its rich, mouth-filling, full-bodied style. It’s a classic, pleasure-bent 2019."

Wine Spectator, 90 Points

"A big-boned version, with warm fig, sappy black fruit and licorice flavors cascading across the palate. The firm tannins are just beginning to release layers of brooding, fruity, herbal mineral notes. For fans of the riper style. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Drink now through 2025."

Winemaker Notes:

"Born under an Osage orange tree, the Cuvée Maclura Côtes du Rhône calls for the greediness of the fruit revealing a blend of spices with delicate tannins. Designed with respect for the traditions of the south, this cuvée is like their grandmothers’ cuisine, generous and full of life."
