Producer: Love & Squalor
Region: Willamette Valley, Oregon
Varietal: Gewürztraminer
Year: 2018
The winery writes, "Love & Squalor 2018 'A Frayed Knot' Rosé of Gewürztraminer is truly a singular wine from the 1971 Sunnyside Vineyard. The color derives from a long cold skin maceration and was fermented dry in Syrah barrels. It has a floral and sweet nose, medium weight body and a nice mineral finish."
Although it says rosé on the label, technically this is an orange wine! The winery explains, "Produced from white wine grapes using the red technique of fermenting fruit along with skin and seeds — the source of a wine’s color — orange wine represents a category all its own, with texture, weight and a broad palate of character as its trademarks. Not to be confused with rosé, traditionally crafted from red varietals such Pinot Noir, Grenache and Tempranillo, orange wine is most commonly made from Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer, whose grapes are actually pink in color."
