To many experts, Portugal is the last frontier of wine in Western Europe. Portugal's wine culture developed in relative isolation and because of this many of their grape varieties don't grow anywhere else in the world. There are over 250 indigenous varieties in the country and winemakers are discovering that these ancient grapes can be used to make outstanding wines that are finding their place among the great wines of the world. Dynamic producers are making the country a top quality wine region and one of the most exciting wine producing regions today. Douro in particular is an Old World frontier of fascinating new wines made from Portuguese grapes that are mostly unknown and unheralded. It represents a rich mother lode of distinctive terroirs that are just being explored. Quinta da Romaneira is a region-defining estate and a key player in the "Douro Revolution". Owner Christian Seely along with winemaker Antonio Agrellas are the same dynamic duo behind the much celebrated rebirth of Quinta do Noval. They plan to put Quinta da Romaneira shoulder to shoulder with Douro's top names in terms of recognition and quality. The 2017 Quinta da Romaneira "Sino da Romaneira" is a masterful blend of indigenous grapes and a stunning value. It's elegant, smooth, well balanced, fresh and fruity. This red has a harmonious finish with soft tannins. It has notes of black pepper, rose petals and blackberry. Enjoy!

"This is the equivalent of the second wine of Romaneira, following a Bordeaux model. It is a generous blend of four Douro grapes, dominated by Touriga Franca. At the three year mark, it is still fruity with blackberry flavors and a hint of mint, but the tannins have softened, giving a smoothly textured wine that is ready to drink."
Winemaker Notes:
"The Sino red wine from Romaneira is vinified from the classical Douro varieties of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cao and Touriga Nacional. Fresh and elegant with soft approachable tannins, this is a wine that expresses the wild beauty of its Douro origins. The name "Sino" refers to the Portuguese word for the ancient bell that hangs over the entrance to the main house of the Quinta, and which is reproduced on the label of the wine.
Floral and spicy with notes of black pepper and rose petals. Well balanced, smooth and fresh with a harmonious finish. Beautiful open red color. Fine and delicate nose. Soft ripe red fruits on the palate. Well balanced, fresh and harmonious."
