2012 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino
Region: Montalcino, Tuscany
Varietal: 100% Sangiovese Grosso
The estate vineyards of Mastrojanni are situated in rocky, sparse terrain in the remote hamlet of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, dating back to 1975. Rigorous farming, miniscule yields and the non-intervention winemaking philosophy of Maurizio Castelli are what define this flagship blend. The vines are replanted periodically and systematically at Mastrojanni, resulting in vineyard parcels that are 40 years old on average and that yield Sangiovese wines with immense fruit concentration and exotic spice, tobacco and leather characteristics. Aged for 36 months in Allier oak barrels of varying size and 6 months in bottles prior to release.
Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate says, “Beautifully saturated and dark, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino offers a distinctively sophisticated personality. The wine's bouquet offers a compelling medley of dark fruit tones that shift into savory spicy and balsam herb. Another nice quality of the wine is that no one element overpowers or overshadows the other. It offers a great sense of balance. This wine has many cards to play and I am confident it will play them well over the next ten years of its evolution. 94 Points.”
Our team says this is the epitome of elegance and masculinity working in tandem, a Brunello of nearly endless depth, complexity and finesse.
