2013 Montevetrano Colli di Salerno [JS96]
Region: Campania, Italy
Varietal: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 30% Aglianico
Proprietress Silvia Imparato indulged in wine as a hobby until she decided to rebuild her family’s vineyards in Montevetrano, in the oft-underestimated region of Campania. She employed the skills of highly regarded winemaker Riccardo Cotarella and they have created an outstanding icon wine they decided to name Montevetrano.
James Suckling says, “This is a famous red that delivers depth and finesse. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a wonderful finish of blackberry, cocoa and spices including black peppercorns. One of the best Montevetranos in years. A blend of aglianico and merlot. Drink or hold. 96/100”
Barry also says you can always taste the volcanic soils in which the grapes are grown for this wine.
