"From the oldest parcel of the domaine, planted with selection massale in 1936. It starts in Faconnières and continues into the contiguous lieu-dit of Les Chenevery. These old vines deliver a lovely, super-ripe dark plum, prune and fig fruit, with notes of earth and tar. The texture is dense and muscular but not heavy. An impressive wine, if less well-known than the premier crus of Gevrey and Chambolle."

"Moderate reduction is enough to push what appears to be ripe fruit to the background. More interesting are the dense, powerful and imposing big-bodied flavors that brim with both muscle and dry extract that serves to buffer the extremely firm but not hard tannic spine supporting the equally serious, lengthy and impeccably well-balanced finish."

"The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru comprises of 75% Les FAconnieres and 25% from Les Chenevery planted by Laurent Lignier’s grandfather between 1936 and 1952. This has a very elegant bouquet, beautifully defined with shimmering red fruit laced with minerals. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins, a little earthy with a finish that is surfeit with tension. Often one of my favorite cuvees from the domaine, this will age with style."
