Jose Maria da Fonseca is the story of a family that goes back almost two centuries and more than seven generations.  The Fonseca winemaking heritage dates back to 1834 and they are the cornerstone of today's Portuguese wine business.  They are a major producer of quality Portuguese wines and the oldest table wine company in Portugal.  Their winemaking philosophy is one of continuous development while honoring their rich heritage.  Fonseca wines showcase the unique terroir of Portugal.  Anticyclones are centers of high atmospheric pressure around which the wind blows clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.  Portugal lives under the effect of the Azores Anticyclone, a subtropical anticyclone that influences the country's climate and consequently, its very typical and distinctive terroir.  The result is wine regions that are as different as they are unique, resulting in rich, elegant and surprising wines.  The 2022 Jose Maria da Fonseca Anticiclone made Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2024.  It's a balanced, medium-bodied red backed by light tannins and lively acidity.  It's fresh with flavors of boysenberry, blackberry, black cherry, licorice, mocha, espresso, tobacco and graphite.  Enjoy!

#66 On The Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines Of 2024!
